Alicia Howell

      Alicia B. Howell, owner and operator of Alicia’s School of Performing Arts, is a Graduate of Appalachian State University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Psychology and Concentration in Personnel Administration. She has been dancing since the age of three and has had numerous years of dance and theatre training under various professional choreographers and performers throughout the United States. Alicia has been involved both onstage and off and has choreographed numerous shows for Harnett Regional Theatre, Campbell University, Benson Little Theatre, Garner Magnet High School and Mt. Olive College’s Show choir. She has also served as choreographer for the Miss Garner, Miss Johnston County, Miss Benson, Miss South Johnston and Miss Erwin Harnett County Pageants. She is also a faculty member at Campbell University where she teaches Ballet, Tap, and Jazz through the P.E. Dept. Alicia resides in Raleigh with her husband Steve. Her studio has been in business for 27 years. Alicia is extremely proud of all her students and honored to have such a wonderful and talented staff.

 

Marilyn Brickmeier

        Marilyn Brickmeier was relocated to North Carolina from Long Island, NY with her husband Keith in 1992. She has a daughter, Elizabeth, who is 12 years old and loves for the arts. Marilyn has danced since she was 2 1/2 years old and started teaching at 16 years old. She spent summers in NYC obtaining her Dance Teaching Certification from Dance Educators of America. Marilyn teaches Preschool, Ballet, Tap, Jazz, and Clogging.

 

 

 

 

 

DeAnn Howell

DeAnn Howell has shared her love for the arts, for more than a decade, as an instructor at Alicia's School of Performing Arts. She is trained in Ballet, Tap, Jazz, Clogging, Modern and Contemporary. DeAnn enjoys teaching all ages and all levels of dance. She takes great pride in her work and has been blessed to receive best choreography and over all talent awards.

DeAnn continues her dance education by attending workshops and Dance Conventions thus allowing her to stay abreast of the changes to this art form.

Thrilled to be a part of the Alicia's family and excited for a new season. "I am looking forward to education those who share the same passion of the arts".

 

 

Hope Overby

        Hope Overby has been dancing since the age of 5, beginning with ballet and quickly adding jazz, tap, pointe, and clogging. She has had intensive dance training, studying under Roni Mahler, Janice Barringer, Daryl Retter, Debbie Dee, and the late Steven Boyd. She continues to study the art of dance through conventions and workshops.

        Hope has been teaching for 19 years, and has experience in dance, theatre, and pageantry. She has won numerous awards, both personally and with her students including most talented and best choreography.

        She enjoys passing her passion and love of fine arts onto the next generation. "It brightens my world to see the eyes of a child sparkle with new knowledge and love for dance".

Lauren Turbeville

Lauren has been studying the art of dance since the age of three; eighteen years later her passion for dance still continues to grow.  Lauren has trained in the areas of ballet, tap, jazz, and clogging.  She began her studies here at Alicia’s School of Performing Arts where she was also on the performing Company.  She was a member of The Benson Down Home Stompers clogging team under the direction of Belinda McFerrin.  Lauren also competed with Feet on Fire at Christy’s DanceXplosion under the direction of Christy Wood.  Apart from training at local studios, Lauren has attended Master Clogging Classes with the likes of Scotty Bilz, Blake Bartlett, Steve Smith, Simone Pace, Andy Howard, Matt Sexton, Matt and Connie Pearson, Missy Shinoski, and Sherry Cox.  In other areas of dance, Lauren has attended Master Classes taught by Darryl Retter, Debbi Dee, Steven Boyd, Aaron Cash, Bubba Carr, Gerard Heintz, Nathan Prevost, Keith Clifton, and many more.  Lauren is excited to continue to share her love of dance with everyone here at Alicia’s!

Abbie Dunn

Abbie has been studied dance since the age of seven, at Alicia's School of Performing Arts, where she was also a member of the Performing Company. She has trained in the areas of ballet, clogging, jazz, and tap. Abbie has also participated in various clogging conventions and other conventions focused on other areas of dance. Abbie has attended Master Classes taught by Aaron Cash, Bubba Carr, Gerard Heintz, Nathan Prevost, and many more. She loves sharing her knowledge of dance with everyone at Alicia's and is very excited to be teaching with us this year!

 

 

 

Brittany Thornton

Brittany Paige Thornton is currently a junior at Cardinal Gibbons High School where she dedicates her time to the dance program by being involved with dance classes and the Nationally ranked Dance Team at her high school. She is devoted to the art of dance and has been since age three when she first enrolled at Alicia's School of Performing Arts. Brittany has performed at numerous locations like Disney's Wide World of Sports, Wake County's Pieces of Gold, Disney's Galaxy Theatre, National Dance Association Competition,as well as many others and has choreographed for Ligon Middle School, Shaw University Cheerleaders, Harnett Regional Theater and for her current Dance Team. She is happy that after 13 years of dancing at Alicia's she can pass on what she has learned to her students. Brittany is involved with dance classes at Alicia's and is also a part of Alicia's performing company. She looks forward to dancing, teaching, competing and enjoying her last two years before graduating and dancing at the collegiate level in the future. Brittany is ecstatic about the upcoming year at Alicia's!

Amanda Barefoot

Amanda lives in Benson, NC. She is currently a freshman at Campbell University. She has been taking dance since she was 3 years old and has been involved with cheerleading for 6 years. She teaches the cheer/dance class. Amanda enjoys working with young people & sharing her love for dance with them! She looks forward to an exciting year!

 

 

 

 

 

Laura Hemingway

Laura Hemingway has been studying dance for twelve years, participating as a student at Alicia's School of Performing Arts and competing as a member of Alicia's Performing Company for six years. Pursuing her passion for the arts at local and out-of-state workshops, festivals, and camps, she has trained in ballet, tap, jazz, modern/contemporary, hip hop, and pointe. Laura enjoys working with children and has experience as an assistant and substitute teacher with Alicia's School of Performing Arts, an assistant choreographer for Harnett Regional Theater, and a choreographer for YWAM-based team Crosswave Performing Arts.
